About Pat Abernathy

I can’t imagine living without art. To me the process of creating art is stimulating, frustrating, satisfying, but mainly joyful. My studio is my happy place. I grew up in an environment where art was so important to my daily life. I received my BFA and M. ED in art and art education at the University of Southern Mississippi and taught art for many years. Since retirement I have had the time to pursue further studies in painting in workshops and the Mississippi Art Colony. I love the freedom to spend hours experimenting with paint and various art materials. I am a member of the South Mississippi Art League (SMAL), the Ocean Springs Art Association and the Mississippi Art Colony. I have participated in art exhibits at Hattiesburg Cultural Arts Center , The Keenan Art Gallery in Pass Christian, the Oxford Treehouse Gallery, Mississippi Art Colony Traveling Show and Behold Gallery In Bay St. Louis, Miss. and others. I have won numerous awards for my paintings in shows in several places. My work Hangs in many locations throughout the United States. As I have emphasized my love of art has been with me throughout my life. I see the world as many paintings in my mind ready to be painted.
